Jocelene Lomas

Jocelene is a registered psychologist who has worked in both public and non-for-profit organisations. She is a compassionate and driven therapist who demonstrates an eclectic treatment style adapting to the individual presenting in front of her. Jocelene is a holistic psychologist who delivers intervention through a client-centered approach drawing from a number of different evidence based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness CBT, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Dialectical Behaviour therapy, Motivational and Solution-Focused strategies, and demonstrates a keen interest for Schema Therapy. The foundation of her work is based on trauma informed care and practice. Jocelene acknowledges that growth in an individual is holistic and encompasses the mental body, the emotional body, the physical body and the spiritual body. By acknowledging this broader need for growth; her practice provides a space for the client to heal in all areas of life.

Jocelene has extensive experience working with adolescents and adults within the forensic population who present with problematic offending behaviours, along with an array of mental health concerns. Working with forensic clients inspired Jocelene’s interest in specific presentations such as complex trauma, attachment issues and personality disorders. This specific interest lead Jocelene to work with children, adolescents and adults, within the community, who present with trauma, attachment difficulties and emerging personality disorders. Working with complex presentations has affirmed Jocelene’s holistic approach for intervention; acknowledging that any healing journey encapsulates an individual’s whole self.

Jocelene believes that it is important, while working with young people, to work within a family systems framework. Family systems involves a number of approaches including parent support, parenting skills development and awareness, parent education around mental health and associated symptoms, and facilitating family sessions to support secure attachments. This allows the young person and their family to heal as a whole.

Within Jocelene’s journey as a psychologist, she has treated a variety of mental health concerns including depression, anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), sexual abuse, ASD, ADHD, behaviour problems, schizophrenia, bipolar, adjustment disorder, gender dysphoria, and a range of personality disorders. She has extensive experience in suicide/self-harm risk assessments and has provided short and long-term intervention to individuals who engage in these acute and chronic maladaptive behaviours.Another passion of Jocelene’s is in medico-legal assessment/report writing; such as pre-sentencing and family psychological court reports. She also enjoys administering psychological tests and/or assessments including sexual offending assessments, personality assessments and intelligence tests; whether it be for legal or disability purposes.
