Melanya Polata

Melanya is a provisionally registered psychologist currently completing her 4+2 internship at Reflections Psychology. Melanya is passionate about assisting people in developing proactive strategies to build their confidence, manage their life balance and to be interpersonally effective in both their personal and professional lives. Melanya has a background of professional experience within the corporate sector as a leadership coach and organisational strategist and consultant.

She has built a year of her experience in working with trauma, personality disorders, attachment issues and complex cases within Corrective Services, and has now returned to focus on work within our community.

Melanya uses evidence-based practices including:

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Psychoeducation

Her holistic approach to practice helps form individualised treatment plans with clients based on their needs and desired outcomes, while the collaborative approach to therapy helps clients to identify goals and strengths within themselves, and to build upon them when faced with different life challenges.

As a wife and mother, and career professional, Melanya has a keen interest in social and developmental psychology and working with couples, teenagers and career professionals to develop many facets of their lives in order to reach their full potential, life balance, and resilient mental health. Additionally, her honours work in the study of ex-military leadership and emotion, and her professional interest in PTSD and trauma sees her keen to work with current military professionals, Veterans, PTSD clients, and those who experience trauma-associated issues.
